Fundamentals of Software

I've owned a computer for the last 5 years, and I know how to do basic things just to get by, but in terms of general hardware and software know-how, I need major help!!!! Do you have any suggestions on where I can get some advice/training on computer fundamentals...hardware info that is not difficult to understand- hopefully in a visual format or with a live instructor...and eventually more advanced software programs? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to know your recommendations about books that teach the principles of software design. For example, how to design modular systems with low coupling and high cohesion, or how to use inheritance and polymorphism. I'm less interested in specific patterns, I'm looking for the fundamentals of good software design.

I have an exams tomorrow and My mind has just gone completely blank . Here is a question which is pretty much going to be the same in my exams. A text file , Employees.txt , contains the names and number of year's experience of the 10 employees. Text file: joe smith 7 Phil jones 2 Alex hayes 10 joe green 5 Part (1)Write the code necessary to populate form level parallel arrays with the data from the file, Employees.txt Using arrays write seperate event handler methods to: (a) Display each person's name and number of years of experience (b) Display the names of the people and the number of people with more than average experince (c) Display the name of the person with the least experience. (d) Display each person's last name. (e) Accept a person's name form an inputbox and display their number of years experience or an appropriate error message if the person is not in the array. Your program should work for any combination of upper or lower case letters entered. (f) Create a dynamic array, junior() which will hold the names of the people with less than 5 years experience. I know there is a lot there but any help is greatly appreciated. even if you can give me a little advice or a website where it shows how to do this clearly would be very helpful. Most of what I have seen through Google is designed for technical analysis.

Yahoo finance has a pretty good stock screening software. I used it occasionally. I am told Microsoft has good software. I could never get it to work on my computer. You know MSFT. Most of their software works only sparingly on the best days.
